The new coronavirus presents one of the most serious challenges we have ever faced. Laboratories are expected to provide consistent performance. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and related uncertainties, it is quite a challenge to perform laboratory tests at the usual quality level.

Quality and compliance at GenomeScan

At GenomeScan, it is the task of the QA Department to make sure that the laboratory organisation is robust and capable of handling contingencies. The GenomeScan quality system has been designed to assure consistent performance at all times. If necessary, the GenomeScan Contingency Plan will be applied to assure business continuity. The Contingency Plan is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) with instructions for various risks, hazardous situations, disasters and incidents. Although the current COVID-19 outbreak is beyond imagination, the Contingency Plan does contain an applicable response plan for an epidemic disease.

Despite the difficult circumstances, GenomeScan will continue to provide its services to the community. GenomeScan is following the guidelines of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the laboratory will maintain normal quality levels and compliance with the ISO and GxP standards. Until further notice, we do not expect any delays. There are sufficient stocks and backup systems to continue operations for several months. We do everything in our power to keep our stocks at operational levels. The moment we expect to run out of resources, we will scale down our operations and prioritize the most important activities.

The company is up and running and well-prepared for the situation. Meanwhile, the team is also preparing itself for the post-pandemic era. Let’s hope this new era will start soon.
