Description:
The project aimed to establish a human kidney anatomy at the single-cell level by comprehensive cell type discovery and quantitative single-cell microscopy. The programme set out to not only catalogue all cell types in the kidney (by single-cell RNA-seq), but also to locate them in intact organ sections, using quantitative single-molecule imaging. This comprehensive spatial information provides an insight on how cells cooperate on the molecular level to build functional tissues and the complete organ. Such knowledge is beneficial in the process of improving existing in vitro differentiation protocols and allows better understanding of congenital kidney diseases. GenomeScan performed a number of single cell RNA sequencing experiments.
