Since sequencing has become a standard tool in modern microbiology, researchers are able to study the microorganisms in detail. Culturing usually alters the sample composition and even leaves microorganisms undetected because of their failure to grow in the laboratory.
The ProkaryoteScan Taxonomy gives you a detailed overview of the organisms that contain the 16S RNA gene: bacteria and archae. This conserved region of the prokaryotic ribosome also contains hypervariable sequences, which provide species-specific signature sequences useful for identification.

ProkaryoteScan Full Genome
This method identifies all features of the microbiome, such as antibiotic resistance cassettes, pathogenicity genes, or other variable microbe features. We provide this method when the microbial composition must remain as intact as possible.
The eukaryotic DNA is removed by hybridization capture of methylated DNA residues. Not all bacterial 16S DNA regions are equally amplified by the 16S primers. Without these PCR amplification rounds, the data accurately reflects the true sample composition.
With the ProkaryoteScan Full Genome, a better classification of the microbes can be performed. With the whole sequence instead of only the small 16S region, the alignment of data to reference genomes can be performed more accurately. This enables you to make the distinction between species and subspecies.
This method is based on the Full Genome package, and results in a detailed composition of the microbial community. This tool couples phenotypic features to individual microbes. By generating long reads on the PacBio, e.g antibiotics resistance cassettes can be precisely linked to certain microbes. In this way the resistant bacteria can be detected, which is especially important for clinical applications.
